Welcome to WHDC New Website and Forum

The Wirehaired Dachshund Club was founded in 1927 with Sir Charles Lambe as Chairman, originally for owners and intending owners of Wire Haired Dachshunds only.

They sponsored two classes, Open dog and Open Bitch at the Veterinary College Show for members only in 1927.

The first club show was held in 1931.

In 1932 the Southern and Long Haired Dachsland Clubs were invited to join the Wirehaired Dachshund Club and the Great Joint Dachshund Club was formed.

The first show was in 1933 with a entry fee of 5/6, and prize money of 20/-, 10/-, and 5/-.

Print article Feb 27 2010 Stripping a Wirehaired Dachshund

Hello

My Wirehaired Dachshund puppy is 3 1/2 months old. I believe around 6 months she will require her first stripping.

At this time I don't intend to show her, but may do later on. If scissors were used instead of hand stripping would it affect her 'wire' coat or affect it in the future?

Hello All,

I've joined this forum as well as the more general www.dachshundforum.co.uk. I have a 10 year old mini wire dachshund called Alf, who has Lafora's disease - a form of epilepsy that can affect any breed, but mwh dachs, beagles and bassets are particularly predisposed to it (research indicates about 5% may be affected with up to 25% carriers). Just found this forum which seems a little quiet at the moment but I am hoping it will take off :: I am Claire ; I live in Australia and breed and show Mini wires. I have always wanted to find a forum that is mainly wire people so fingers crossed it will become a lively one!
